Hoover Garbage and Trash Pickup Info

Beginning October 1, 2015, Waste Services of Alabama (Santek) - Phone: 205-631-1313 - became the City of Hoover's garbage and recycling collection provider.

What to do with your old garbage and recycling carts: Beginning October 1st and ending on October 31st, the former vendor, Republic Services, will collect one empty trash cart and one empty recycle cart per household.   Place your old cart on the curb on Oct 1st.

Helpful hints: Place the old carts on the curb and lay them on their sides so the new vendor will not check it for garbage.   Place the small recycle cart inside the large garbage cart, if they are empty to save space.  Thank you for your patience.

The City of Hoover provides to all homes within the city limits the following services free of charge:

  • Curb side garbage collection - twice weekly
  • Recycling - each Wednesday
  • Curb side limbs/brush removal, large bulky items (Call to schedule or submit online via City of Hoover Garbage & Recycling website).
  • Leaf collection during the fall and spring months (see schedule on City of Hoover Garbage & Recycling website

If you are new to our neighborhood, service has already been established at your address and is provided by the city.

You only need to contact Public Works (205-444-7543) if you do not know the days of service or if the bins are damaged or missing.

They will instruct Waste Services to deliver a trash and recycle bin to your home.

Garbage CollectionMonday and Thursday - Garbage cans should be rolled out to your curb area on the day of pickup.
RecyclingWednesdays - This is paper, cardboard, magazines, phone books and #1 - #7 plastics. (The number is on the bottom of the container inside a little triangle.) Visit here for a complete list of items accepted for recycling.
Leaf PickupThere are four scheduled days in the fall and winter for the vacuum truck to collect leaves raked to the curb. Get detailed information here. We are ZONE TWO.  You may also bag the leaves and Waster Services will pick them up.
Limbs & BrushTo be added to the list for a special collection, contact City of Hoover Public Works Department at 205-444-7543 or submit online. Crews on the garbage trucks can sometimes gather small piles of limbs, but in most cases it is best to inform them. Only debris generated by the homeowner will be collected. It is the responsibility of hired landscapers, tree services, roofers, remodeling companies, etc. to remove any materials/debris generated by their crews.
Hazardous WasteThe city hosts an annual Household Hazardous Waste Day each April to allow city residents to dispose of hazardous or environmentally sensitive material.
OtherFor other items, such as appliances, toilets, chairs, sofas, etc., contact the City of Hoover Public Works Department at 205-444-7543 or submit online
