City of Hoover

hooveralabama.gov

The city has an app called My Hoover Connect where you can make requests, leave a comment, or ask a question in one place. Visit the website or download it on your smartphone, etc.

We recommend checking out the Hoover Recreation Center, which offers extremely discounted memberships to Hoover residents for a variety of fitness classes, pool usage, and game room access. For outdoor enthusiast, Hoover maintains a variety of parks and facilities and recently completed the Hoover Met Complex. Also, check out Hoover Attractions such as Moss Rock Preserve or Aldridge Gardens.

The Hoover Library is the hub for cultural and literary activities in the city. It will change the way you think about libraries and honestly, it's fantastic. Meet your friends (there is a coffee and food café), experience live theater, peruse art, listen to music, entertain your children, learn about new technology, seek job searching assistance, explore your interests, find good book recommendations and much, much more. We encourage you to visit and get your free membership today. The Hoover Library is member of the Jefferson County Library Cooperative.

Hoover Garbage and Trash Pickup Info

Waste Services of Alabama (Santek) is the City of Hoover's garbage and recycling collection provider. Phone: 205-631-1313.

The City of Hoover provides to all homes within the city limits the following services free of charge:

  • Curb side garbage collection - twice weekly, Monday & Thursday

  • Recycling - each Wednesday (Here is the list of what can be placed in the recycling bin.)

  • Curb side limbs/brush removal, large bulky items (Submit request via My Hoover Connect app, call to schedule, or submit online via City of Hoover).

  • Leaf collection during the fall and spring months (see schedule on City of Hoover Garbage & Recycling website)

If you are new to our neighborhood, service has already been established at your address and is provided by the city. You should have two bins; one for recycling and one for garbage.

You only need to contact Public Works (205-444-7543) if you do not know the days of service or if the bins are damaged or missing.

They will instruct Waste Services to deliver a garbage and recycle bin to your home.

Garbage Collection

Monday and Thursday - Garbage cans should be rolled out to your curb area on the day of pickup.

Recycling

Wednesdays - Wednesdays - The City updated what can be accepted January 2018. Please check their recycling website for the latest info. Here is a link to the PDF card about what is acceptable: City of Hoover Recyclable Materials.

Holidays

If garbage or recycling collection falls on a holiday during the week, service will be delayed by one day the remainder of that week.

Leaf Pickup

There are four scheduled days in the fall and winter for the vacuum truck to collect leaves raked to the curb. Get detailed information here. We are ZONE TWO. You may also bag the leaves and Waste Services will pick them up.

Limbs & Brush

To be added to the list for a special collection, contact City of Hoover Public Works Department at 205-444-7543 or submit online. Crews on the garbage trucks can sometimes gather small piles of limbs, but in most cases it is best to inform them. Only debris generated by the homeowner will be collected. It is the responsibility of hired landscapers, tree services, roofers, remodeling companies, etc. to remove any materials/debris generated by their crews.

Hazardous Waste

The city hosts an annual Household Hazardous Waste Day each April to allow city residents to dispose of hazardous or environmentally sensitive material.

Other

For other items, such as appliances, toilets, chairs, sofas, etc., contact the City of Hoover Public Works Department at 205-444-7543 or submit online.
